I have removed the hyperlinks in the indexes in the back of the book. The reason was to cut down the size of the PDF. Some of the older smart phones were having issues with the file size being too large. I am hoping this helps.

Update: Riga and Brassie Brook Shelters (UPDATED 4/3/23)

Construction of the new Riga Shelter and Brassie Brook Shelter (NOBO miles 1,511.5 and 1,512.7) will resume this spring. The side trails, camping areas, and privies for both shelter areas will be closed for construction on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. until about 5:00 p.m. or when construction ends for the day. If the project is delayed due to weather, these sites will also be closed on May 17.
All visitors should avoid the shelter areas during this closure and should plan their itineraries accordingly to avoid camping at these sites during the closure. After the side trails, camping areas, and privies for both sites reopen on either May 17 or May 18, visitors should not disturb any construction materials and stay out of the construction zones. We will update this notice when we have more information. (M 1511.5 and 1512.7)

Added Abol Pines Campsite (M 2181.2).Abol Pines Campsite, State campsite is located (100 yds N) past the Abol Bridge Store on the east side of the road. A small dirt road leads (100 yds E) to Abol Pines Campsites. Primitive campground with no amenities. $10PP for Maine state residents. $15P for non-residents. Tent sites and s two {6} lean-tos. Located on the riverbank on the West Branch Penobscot River with good views of Katahdin. Abol Pines sometimes sees large groups of MEGAs bunching up before going into Baxter State Park.[45.83460,-68.96439]

Updates included:

• Some minor spelling corrections.

• The reroute completed on 17 December. Adds (0.2) to the trail and skirts around Poor Mountain.
  This relocation was done because of the deeply eroded north slope of Poor Mtn where the trail was located on the fall line. The reroute takes a turn to the east at Sapling Gap, climbs briefly and then slowly descends to meet the original trail at Wide Gap. The northernmost 1,000 feet are very near the original trail but have the benefit of being sidehill trail which allows good drainage.

• It will also include adding two hostels that I am coordinating with now.
  The Maine Roadhouse in Maine.
  The Stratton Motel in Maine.
• Updated West Mountain Shelter to correct milage off trail (1.3E).
• Updated hostel listing in the in the back to include hostels that got left out.

Gaia Update:

To update the Appalachian Trail centerline file on Gaia, do the following.
Go to you Gaia settings--> account--> click on Last Sync. Once you do this it should displ;ay todays date and the Appalachian Trail centerline for 2023 will update with the relocation.
